L&T bags ship building contract from HSL

Visakhapatnam: Precision Engineering Systems, business vertical of Larsen & Toubro has been outsourced the construction of two Fleet Support Ships.
L&T will build FSS at its greenfield location Kattupali near Chennai.
The Cabinet Committee on Security approved awarding the order for building five FSS to HSL for an amount of Rs19,000 crore in August last year.
HSL has already started construction of indigenously made first Fleet Support Ship for the Indian Navy. Sources in the company attributed the decision to outsource construction of the two of the five ships to L&T to meet timelines set for delivery of the ships to the Navy.
CITU leaders including State general secretary Ch Narsinga Rao decried outsourcing to L&T instead of constructing on its own.
